Who is it for?

What’s the set up? 

Exeter Chamber runs a host of events – from round tables to parties. Summer bash, anyone? Their regular meetups include Coffee in the City  (every other Wednesday from 8:30 – 9:30) and a monthly Thirsty Thursday. 

How much does it cost?

There are 3 types of membership available. The cheapest option is £120 per year.

This is one of the most active groups in Exeter. Beyond events, the Chamber is busy in the campaigning space and runs initiatives related to transport, STEMM and more. Membership is for a business, so if you do join and have colleagues they can come along too.

Your Partnerships - Exeter and East Devon

What’s the set up? 

The focus of Your Partnerships is on events, both on and offline. You’ll need to travel further afield for some of their meet-ups but there are plenty of regular events nearby, as well as virtual calendar.

Your Partnerships recently launched a Women-only group with monthly meet-ups in Exeter, Plymouth, and Cornwall. These lunches are open to YP members and non-members to bring ambitious women together to help grow your network in a relaxed, light-hearted environment. We host a monthly lunch at Quayside Distillery in Exeter. We chat over a delicious two-course meal and get a talk from the venue's gin distiller about how they make their artisan gin and they even offer a tasting session of their different gin flavourings.

How much does it cost?

It is £12.50 + VAT per month to attend online meetings only. To access face-to-face events £25 + VAT per month.

The Women’s group lunches are £30 for YP and non-members.

Anything else I should know? 

Your Partnerships certainly offer variety when it comes to events. Keep your eyes out for their Net-walking at Haldon Hill, if you fancy some fresh air while mingling.

Six Degrees

What they say…

Open, friendly and driven by a desire to envelop its members in a collaborative environment, Six Degrees offers a confidential space where relationships can be built, nurtured and enjoyed. Every month we host online and in-person events, so whether you’re mingling over a croissant or listening to an inspirational speaker in a swanky venue, Six Degrees offers a confidential space where relationships can flourish.

Who is it for? 

A women’s only group.

What’s the set up? 

Six Degrees is a membership group with regular (currently fortnightly) meetups and lots of ad hoc events in between. Sea swim, anyone?

How much does it cost?

Membership is £25 pm, and events are charged on top with discounted prices for Six Degree Members.

Anything else I should know? 

Six Degrees are, unsurprisingly, popular with the Exeter female business community. They meet up at some of the coolest venues in the city and have a range of inspirational women speakers. Their Membership programme was only recently launched, so watch this space for how it evolves.

LINKEDIN LOCAL EXETER

Vic Williams started LinkedIn Local in the SW in 2016 and has since brought in various co-hosts. The aim is to create a networking environment that is generally free to attend, and allows people to get to know each other in an informal and relaxed atmosphere. There is no pressure to sell, provide leads, or listen to endless and boring 60-second introductions.

Who is it for? 

The events are aimed at anyone in business or in a job, but are focused on local people getting to know other local people whom they may or may not be connected with via LinkedIn.

What’s the set up? 

Networking events take place every month, and often more frequently, at No.5 in Exeter or other local venues. There is typically a guest speaker at morning events, followed by plenty of time to mingle and connect. There are also (free) co-working days you can go along to.

How much does it cost?

Most of the events are free. One-offs charge to cover the cost of drinks and dinner.

Vic is very well known on the Exeter networking circuit. He’s extremely friendly and definitely a guy to know if you are looking to build genuine local connections in the city. Rumour has it that a recent LinkedIn Local event went on until 4.30 am, you have been warned!

The Business Network Exeter

What they say…

Whether providing face-to-face business networking events in Exeter, as we have been since 1993, or hosting our more recent and equally successful online events, our purpose remains the same – to provide business owners and directors with an effective and focused environment to do business.

Who is it for? 

Open to anyone, without a one person per profession limit, this group generally attracts Directors, Owners and Business Partners.

What’s the set up? 

There is a combination of online and offline events that take place on a monthly basis. The in-person events are a seminar followed by a lunch.

How much does it cost?

There is an annual membership fee and then a cost per lunch of £37. Seminars and online events are included in the membership price.

Anything else I should know? 

Launched in Exeter 30 years ago, this network operates across the country and membership gives access to the national database. Lunches are held at Sandy Park and Exeter Racecourse, and with 2 courses and coffee to be consumed there’s plenty of time to forge meaningful connections.

BNI City Wall

In a nutshell, we are committed to helping our members attract and win more new business.

Being a member of our networking group is like having your own unpaid marketing team working for you, because your fellow members recommend and refer your business to people that they meet. Why do they do this? Because they know that you are doing the same for them. Even in this digital age, we all know that ‘’People buy People’’, which is why we have been so successful on the behalf of so many different professions.

Who is it for?

The group meet once a week on a Wednesday at the Hampton Hilton at 6.45 until around 9.00 am.

To go on an ongoing basis you will need to become an official Chapter member, which will cost around £900 for your first year. After this, each meeting is £12.50 to attend, breakfast included.

Anything else I should know?

STErling Network Exeter

The structured format of Sterling’s meetings might not be for everyone but they certainly seem to produce results, with the organisation claiming to have the highest renewal rates around. Virtual networking has tailed off as COVID restrictions ended and a lot of people find face to face networking the better option, but to be able to attend an early morning meeting from the comfort of your own home is certainly convenient.

Jelly SW

What they say…

Jelly South West are free not for profit informal coworking events in the South West where freelancers, start ups, home workers and small/micro business owners bring their laptops, ideas or other work and work, chat and collaborate with other small business owners. 

Who is it for? 

It’s open to anyone.

What’s the set up? 

Jelly co-working days take place monthly at The Generator on the Quay. They also run events in Plymouth, Crediton, Cullompton and more, so there are plenty of options if you’d like to attend more regularly.

How much does it cost?

Absolutely nothing! The ethos of Jelly is to be accessible to all so the venue and wifi are provided free of charge, with small charges made for food and drink.

Anything else I should know? 

The emphasis here is on co-working, so if you’re in the market for structured networking, this probably isn’t the group for you. But Jelly is very welcoming and if you’re fed up of beavering away at home, then definitely grab your laptop and head on down. You never know who you might meet.

Venaspace – The Rabbit Hole

Venaspace is an independent workspace provider in the Southwest, with buildings in Exeter, Plymouth, and Bournemouth.

Located in the city centre, our Exeter building, The Mount, has 6 floors, including a dystopian themed community/networking hub, The Rabbit Hole, on the lower floor. Join us and other local businesses on the second Thursday of the month for a unique networking experience down The Rabbit Hole!!

It’s open to anyone, you don’t need to be a Venaspace member to come along.

This isn’t a networking group, although you’ll likely see familiar faces if you attend regularly. It’s very popular, so definitely one to go along to if you’re new on the Exeter business scene.

BIPC DEVON

BIPC Devon run collaborative events with other groups on this list, including the Lyme Bay Ladies and Six Degrees, so you’ll likely see some familiar faces if you head along.

Business@Breakfast

What they say…

Business@Breakfast is non-profit making, networking and referral group where local business people work together to help each other’s businesses grow and succeed.

The emphasis of the group is on getting to know and understand each other’s business and passing business referrals to each other. This can be an excellent way of receiving strong referrals, and with all the other benefits that networking provides, we offer a rewarding experience to members.

Who is it for? 

Open to anyone but only one person per professional speciality is allowed in each chapter.

What’s the set up? 

The group meets weekly on a Wednesday from 7 am - 8.30 am at the Mercure Southgate Hotel.

How much does it cost?

Annual membership is an upfront fee of £150 per member or £250 for larger organisations.  Business@Breakfast’s charity of the year receives £50.00 from each member.  There is a charge of £10 (for members) and £15 (for non-members) for each breakfast meeting.

Anything else I should know? 

The Exeter and East Devon branches amalgamated during COVID and so far have stayed joined up. Usually, there are 3 separate networking groups: Exeter, East Devon and Mid-Devon, with members given the chance to attend meetups across all branches.

Lyme Bay Ladies

Lisa Eastwood started the Lyme Bay Ladies on Facebook in October 2015 as she was keen to find a way to bring ladies together for friendship, support and business networking. She was particularly inspired by the quote, ‘Alone we are strong, together we are stronger’.

Ladies running their own businesses have benefitted from tailor-made workshops and informative talks alongside the numerous networking opportunities. Many have seen their business grow, or have been inspired to start a business, by connecting and sharing information in this open forum.

Local ladies and businesswomen.

What’s the set up? 

LBL holds a wide variety of events from walks to wine tasting. Not all of the members are business people, so many of the events have a social focus. 

But there is a varied series of online meetings: business networking, business talks/workshops, social events and wellbeing talks. Business Networking is generally on the 3rd Monday of the month. 

How much does it cost?

Business membership costs £24 per annum. 

Anything else I should know? 

Members really feel a part of the community when joining Lyme Bay Ladies. They have a buzzing Facebook page, with many women saying that the group is an integral part of their daily life!

Young Professionals Network

The Exeter based Young Professionals Network (YPN) offers members a chance to network with like minded professionals on an informal basis. The network was set up by Gilbert Stephens in 2010 to provide the firm’s younger members to build their own network of contacts in the Exeter area. The group has grown annually and now has over 300 members from industry, professional services and the charity sector.

Who is it for? 

Young professionals - this is one for those just starting out in their careers.

What’s the set up? 

Events are generally announced 2 -3 weeks in advance. Previous events have included cocktail making, bowling, laser tag, the art of sushi making! 

How much does it cost?

Membership is free but there is a cost to attend the events themselves.

YPN members sing its praises for helping them build an initial business network, whilst having a whole lot of fun. The group had a hiatus during COVID but came back with a bang in 2022, most recently heading to Haven Banks for an evening of bowling.

Well, to start with, the Club is owned and run by the members – it exists only for the members and not to generate profit for an owner.
